Chinese Antique Furniture First Elm Buffet

This elm buffet has it’s original paint although much of the paint has been touched up. It was made in Gansu Province sometime between 1875 and 1925.

What adds great interest to this buffet are the carvings at the base which have been repaired and re-glued sometime in the past. The hardware and interior shelf have been replaced.

Hi there! great stuff, glad to drop by your page and found these very interesting and informative. Thanks for sharing, keep it up!
Chinese "Antiques" have their own indication of what the Chinese Government considers as an Antique. As of the Cultural Revolution and China's opening of its trade to other countries, the government has tried to protect the definition of a Chinese Antique. The provenance of most Chinese Antiques already provide for the placement of a red "chop" placed there by the next owner. In 2012 Kaminski Auctions set a new auction house record in Chinese art. Five Chinese 20th century paintings by Qi Bashi sold at their Fine Asian Art and Antique Sale for a record $2.3 million dollars. Signed and sealed by Qi Bashi, all five paintings were exquisite examples of Chinese art on 20th century scroll paintings of ink and color on paper.
